Pryce Sandfort returning to Nebraska after historic season

Nebraska 3-point shooting specialist Pryce Sandfort, who helped the Cornhuskers achieve their first NCAA Tournament win and Sweet 16 appearance, will return next season, the school announced Monday.

The 6-foot-7 forward started all 35 games and averaged 18.1 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game while shooting 47.9% from the field and 41.6% from three-point range. His perimeter shooting was historically productive, as he averaged 3.69 made three-pointers per game, first in the Big Ten and fourth nationally. Moreover, his 129 total threes set a program record and ranked second in conference history.

Sandfort’s performance earned him All-Big Ten recognition, including first-team honors, along with Associated Press second-team distinction. Against Troy in the NCAA Tournament first round, he scored 23 points, hitting 7-of-12 from beyond the arc. In the Sweet 16 loss to Iowa, he stacked up 25 points while shooting 6-of-10 from three.

Even while playing through a sports hernia late in the season, Sandfort remained highly productive and is expected to be fully recovered by June following surgery. His decision to return comes despite attracting NBA attention, with ESPN’s Jeremy Woo ranking him No. 47 overall in the 2026 NBA Draft class.

A transfer from Iowa, Sandfort appeared in 65 games over two seasons with the Hawkeyes before his breakout at Nebraska. With him back in the fold, Sandfort joins returning teammate Braden Frager and Belmont transfer Sam Orme as the Cornhuskers continue building for next season.
