Premier League Darts – Week 4 prediction

Last week’s Premier League action on Glasgow saw Jonny Clayton reign victorious with a nightly win for the first time since April 2023, defeating rookie Gian van Veen in the final and climbing to the top of the league table, following his 6-1 dismantling of world champion Luke Littler in the semi.

Clayton will see last week’s victory as a long time coming, having not been a part of either of the last two editions of the Premier League despite finishing as at least an overall semi finalists in his last three years competing, even being crowned Premier League champion in 2021.

‘The Ferret’ will be up first in the opening quarter final of the night in Belfast, which will see a rematch of his semi final last time out which saw him thrash the world number one 6-1.

Littler will no doubt be out for revenge having not so much as reached a final in any of the opening three weeks of this year’s Premier League, a competition he’s reached the final of on both of his previous appearances.

The winner of the opening quarter final will then set up a potentially star studded match up the semi final, with Stephen Bunting and Luke Humphries going head to head for the place in the last four.

Bunting is yet to win a match in this year’s Premier League after three consecutive quarter final defeats, and Thursday night sees him come up against the defending champion Humphries, who will also be disappointed in his performances so far this year, yet to make it past a semi final.

Seven-time champion Michael van Gerwen returns to action this week after missing last week’s action with illness, but still finds himself sat second in the standings having won the opening night of this year’s Premier League, and finished runner up in the second week.

The Dutchman makes his return to the oche with a match against Gerwyn Price in a repeat of the final in Antwerp a fortnight ago, which MVG will be out for revenge for having fallen to a 6-3 defeat on that occasion.

Local eyes will very much be on Premier League rookie Josh Rock who takes part in a PDC televised event in his home country of Northern Ireland for the very first time as takes to the oche for his quarter final clash against Gian van Veen.

Rock has struggled of late in his first ever Premier League campaign and is yet to get his first win on the board, and will be desperate to kickstart his campaign on Thursday in front of his home crowd.

Van Veen reached the final of this year’s World Championships and has also reached the final in two of his first three Premier League nights, missing out on each occasion at the last hurdle but is currently sat third in the standings.

Premier League Darts – Week 4 betting tips

Humphries has the hump

Despite not having reached a final so far in the current Premier League campaign, Luke Humphries boasts the highest average across the opening three weeks of the tournament, but holds the second worst checkout percentage.

The reigning Premier League champion is averaging 103 so far and has been knocking on the door at a breakthrough in recent weeks, averaging 106 in his quarter final win over Rock last week before losing 6-5 to van Veen despite averaging 103, seven higher than his opponent.

The world number two has averaged over 100 in four of his five matches so far this edition, and after a slow start with this checkout percentage, improved hugely last week.

Humphries has won his last four matches against Bunting, his quarter final opponent on Thursday who is yet to win a game this campaign.

Josh to Rock local Belfast fans

Josh Rock is playing in his first Premier League campaign and the youngster is still looking for his first victory in the competition.

The Northern Irishman will be playing in front of his home fans in Belfast on Thursday night, which could give him the encouragement he needs to get over the line for the first time in the tournament.

The 24-year-old has been unlucky in two of his three matches in the Premier League so far, averaging 102 in his first ever match but came up against a 109-averaging Clayton, before last week coming up against a 106-averging Humphries in his quarter final clash, the two highest averages in the tournament so far.

Van Veen is also in his rookie year in the Premier League and won’t have come up against anyone playing in front of their home crowd before so could be an ideal opponent for Rock.
