Premier League clubs told three Spain World Cup winners to name as summer transfer targets

Ferran Torres is among three World Cup winners with Spain who have been suggested as potential Premier League targets this summer.

La Roja have been celebrating their second ever World Cup win as they beat Argentina 1-0 in a cagey and ill-disciplined final on Sunday.

Torres was the match-winning hero for Spain in extra time as he fired into the roof of the net against their ten-man opponents.

They won seven of their eight matches throughout the tournament and conceded just one goal in the quarter-final win over Belgium, which they won 2-1.

Having won the biggest prize in football, many of their players are set to have plenty of interest throughout the summer transfer window.

European football journalist Andy Brassell joined Hawksbee and Jacobs on talkSPORT to list a Spanish trio that could be in demand.

“Aymeric Laporte, who’s only 32 still, and has underlined the fact that he’s still an absolutely top class left-sided centre-back, I’ve got to underline that as well.

“Whether he would leave Athletic (Club) again, I don’t know, but I think big clubs would be daft not to be interested in him.

“I think you look at Alex Baena, who wasn’t really expected to be a big player for them at the start, only really because of Nico Williams’ fitness problems that he played.

“He didn’t have a great first season at Atletico (Madrdi), but he’s so good off the ball as well, which I think massively counts in the Premier League.

“The other one has got to be Ferran Torres. Only 26, one of the best finishers you’ll ever see, and has only got a year left on his contract at Barcelona.

“Having spent the last six months trying to sell him, they’re now thinking, ‘Actually, do we need to extend him?’ Because, it might be a real PR own goal if they get rid of Spain’s winning goalscorer in the World Cup final.”

Spanish summer switches

However, three members of Spain’s victorious squad have already completed moves during the World Cup.

Marc Cucurella was the first player to do so as he joined Real Madrid in a £52million transfer from Chelsea.

The left-back played every minute of every match for Spain, assisting three goals in their run.

Liverpool then signed Victor Munoz from Osasuna after activating his £34m release clause.

Newcastle looked set to bring him in as their replacement for Anthony Gordon, but their Premier League rivals won the race.

Munoz, who can play on both wings, did not play a single minute at the World Cup.

Alejandro Grimaldo, formerly of the Barcelona academy, has joined Atletico from Bayer Leverkusen.

The left-sided defender signed in a deal that could reportedly rise to €25m (£21.2m).
