Liverpool announce deal to sign teenage son of former EFL star in January

Liverpool have announced they have signed the son of a former EFL star.

However, the teenager will not officially join the club until January,

The Reds confirmed on Friday they have agreed a deal to sign striker Djylian N’Guessan from Saint-Etienne for £4.3million.

N’Guessan will now spend the rest of the season on loan at Brest in Ligue 1.

His loan move will be reviewed mid-season, though, when he officially becomes a Liverpool player.

Who is Djylian N’Guessan?

The 18-year-old has already featured eight times in Ligue 1 for Saint-Etienne since making his senior debut aged 16 in January 2025.

He has one goal in 13 first-team appearances in all competitions for his boyhood club.

Saint-Etienne first signed N’Guessan to their academy in 2015, with the youngster featuring for the Under-17 side whilst still just 14.

Meanwhile, N’Guessan has starred for France’s youth teams, having been capped up to Under-20 level.

His progression through the national team ranks has seen him set prolific numbers in front of goal.

The forward scored 12 goals in 14 caps for the Under-16s before averaging a goal a game in 11 outings for the Under-17s.

Those included four goals at last year’s Under-17 Euros in Albania.

N’Guessan was named in the Team of the Tournament after France were beaten in the final by Portugal.

He is also the son of former Leicester City centre-forward Dany N’Guessan.

The 39-year-old made 234 EFL appearances with spells at the Foxes, Charlton and Millwall during his career.

Liverpool transfer policy

N’Guessan’s arrival is the latest in a string of similar moves by Liverpool this summer.

The Reds have also added fellow teenagers Lucca Brughmans and Ifeanyi Ndukwe to their squad.

As with N’Guessan, Brughmans will spend the 2026/27 season out on loan.

The goalkeeper has returned to Genk following his move to Anfield.

Meanwhile, a deal to sign Ndukwe from Austria Vienna was agreed in January before he officially joined this summer.

The defender has since been sent on loan to Spanish outfit Levante for the rest of the current campaign.
