Pistons HC JB Bickerstaff reiterates identity after smothering Cavs in Game 1

The Detroit Pistons opened the Eastern Conference semifinals with an emphatic 111-101 home win vs. the Cleveland Cavaliers Tuesday night, taking a 1-0 series lead behind a balanced team effort and relentless defensive pressure. Superstar Cade Cunningham led the Pistons offensive attack with 23 points and seven assists, while Tobias Harris chipped in 20 points in the Game 1 win. Detroit was able to force 19 turnovers and control large portions of the game, building an 18-point first-half lead before holding off a late push by the Cavs. After the game, The Detroit Free Press’s Omari Sankofa II took to his X, formerly Twitter, sharing a quote from Pistons coach J.B. Bickerstaff where he pointed to the team’s physical defensive identity as the driving force behind the win.

JB on forcing 19 turnovers: “That’s who we are defensively. That’s what our physicality does to people. It puts them in tight spots and then they have to make plays in tight spots. The aim is to wear you down as much as we possibly can.”
