Patrick Mahomes sends simple three-word message to Chiefs draft pick as KC make stunning trade up board

Patrick Mahomes is fired up about his new teammate.

For the first time in almost a decade, the Kansas City Chiefs had a top 10 pick in the NFL Draft.

The last time that happened was back in 2017, when the team took none other than their three-time Super Bowl champion quarterback himself.

Nine years on, and it’s the cornerback position that Kansas City have targeted, as they continue their offseason rebuild.

Who did the Chiefs take in 2026 NFL Draft?

The Chiefs initially had the No. 9 pick, but made a stunning decision to trade up to No. 6, in a deal with the Cleveland Browns.

Kansas City also sent picks 74 and 148 to Cleveland in return, alongside their first-rounder.

They made that move to select LSU prospect Mansoor Delane, who will now join the likes of Mahomes and Travis Kelce at Arrowhead for next season.

Delane impressed in college, and is regarded as the top cornerback prospect in this year’s class.

He arrives after the Chiefs moved on from All-Pro corner Trent McDuffie in a trade with Los Angeles Rams last month.

That package of draft picks includes the No. 29 selection, later on Thursday night.

Mahomes, it seems, is quite happy with the decision to bring Delane to arrowhead.

“Let’s get it!” he wrote on X, as the pick was made.

It’s no secret that Kansas City struggled last season, so defensive help was perhaps necessary.

Will the Chiefs make a Super Bowl run in 2026?

The team finished 6-11 as a once-dominating dynasty crumbled, and lost Mahomes to injury late in the year.

He’s currently rehabbing after surgery to repair both his ACL and LCL, with hopes to be back for Week 1.

Despite a rough outing in 2025, head coach Andy Reid is ‘fired up’ for next season, amid what he’s described as big change in Kansas City.

“I’m fired up to get into this offseason and get going,” he said back in January.

“We didn’t do very well this past year and that hasn’t been our M.O. there.

“I’m going to fix the problem — the problems that we had in all phases, this isn’t just an offense, all phases.

“There will be some guys that move on, there will be people that come in — players and a couple of quality control guys left and a couple of other guys left and we will cover all of that down the road here.

“Change can be good sometimes for you, and so that’s what I’m fired up about.”
