Panthers QB reunion gives them backup to Bryce Young, Kenny Pickett

The Carolina Panthers are ready to make some noise during the 2026 NFL Draft. Carolina looks primed to add more playmakers around Bryce Young before a crucial 2026 season. The Panthers just reunited with one veteran quarterback who should be the final piece of that position group.

Former Cowboys quarterback Will Grier is signing a contract with the Panthers just before the draft, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Grier started his NFL career in Carolina back in 2019. He was a third-round pick out of West Virginia. He played in two games in 2019, logging 228 passing yards with no touchdowns and four interceptions.

The Panthers released Grier just before the 2021 season after acquiring Sam Darnold to be their starting quarterback. Grier then spent a few stints with the Cowboys while also bouncing around the league to multiple teams from 2023-24.

Grier will now join Kenny Pickett as a backup behind Young back where his career began.

Carolina should be set at the quarterback position with Grier joining the mix. They could gain even more stability by extending Young on a long-term contract, which is seemingly in the works.

Now that quarterback is off the table, Carolina is free to address the rest of the roster during the draft.

Carolina could go in a few different directions, with another offensive weapon in play at the 19th overall pick. Panthers GM Dan Morgan did not rule out adding another weapon in the first round. That is quite an aggressive stance, considering the Panthers drafted Xavier Legette and Tetairoa McMillan in the first round over the past few years.

It will be exciting to see how the Panthers approach the draft later this week.
