Padres slugger Manny Machado walks off Braves with clutch hit
Manny Machado delivered the decisive swing Tuesday night, lifting the San Diego Padres to a 7-6 extra-innings win over the Atlanta Braves at Petco Park.
With the game tied 6-6 in the bottom of the 10th inning, the Padres’ seven-time All-Star lined a walk-off single to center field that scored automatic runner Jackson Merrill from second base.
Talkin’ Baseball shared the highlight on X, formerly Twitter, after Machado sealed the Padres’ second straight win over the Braves.

Machado finished 1-for-5 with one RBI, but his only hit decided the game. The veteran third baseman came through with no outs in the 10th, ending a back-and-forth matchup against the NL East-leading Braves.
The swing also gave San Diego another momentum-building win in what has been a grinding season for Machado. Through 76 games, he holds a .185 batting average, 52 hits, 14 home runs, 43 RBIs, and 36 runs scored. Despite the lower average, his power and run production have kept him important in the middle of the Padres’ lineup.
The loss continued a rough June stretch for the Braves. After opening the season with a 40-20 record from Opening Day until the beginning of June, the Braves have gone 8-10 this month, and dropping the first two games of the series in San Diego has only added pressure as they look to regain momentum.
Atlanta still holds a six-game lead over the second-place Philadelphia Phillies in the NL East, but San Diego has now taken back-to-back games from one of the league’s top teams. The Padres secured the latest win in dramatic fashion, beating the Braves 7-6 on Machado’s walk-off single in the 10th inning at Petco Park.
