Packers’ Matt LaFleur drops hint on major offensive overhaul after review

Sometimes, you just have to switch things up. Matt LaFleur has been the coach of the Green Bay Packers for around seven years now, and he’s been organizing the offense for just as long. Over that time span, the offense has been moderately successful, though there’s certainly been some speed bumps. Ahead of his seventh season in the league, the Packers are switching things up a bit.

Amidst the Packers’ offseason preparation, LaFleur talked about the changes that they’ve made to the offense. The head coach said that they reviewed their offensive game plan and have cleaned up a lot of things that looked like they were working, but really haven’t.

“We took a long, deep dive into everything we’ve done over the past 7 years,” LaFleur said, per Packers Base. “Run game, pass game, screen game. We got rid of some stuff that you think is effective, but when you watch it, not quite what you thought it was.”

The Packers have been pretty good on offense, boasting a 15th-ranked offense last season despite missing Jordan Love for a significant portion of the season. They also dealt with a ton of injuries to their offensive core, missing Jayden Reed for most of the season and losing Tucker Kraft to an ACL tear midway through the year as well. Their efficiency on 3rd down has also been ridiculous, boasting the second-highest conversion rate in the league.

That being said, if their offense could be better, it absolutely needs to be fixed. The Packers did lose a couple of pieces in free agency, including wide receiver Romeo Doubs. We’ll see how the new-look Green Bay offense looks after their rearrangement this offseason.
