Orioles make Adley Rutschman injury move
The Baltimore Orioles are coming off a victory on Monday over the Kansas City Royals. They recently got good news about the health of catcher Adley Rutschman, with him potentially returning to the lineup soon.
Now, the Orioles have made lineup moves in preparation for the catcher’s return, per Orioles reporter Luke Jones.
“The Orioles have activated Adley Rutschman from the 10-day IL and designated reserve catcher Sam Huff for assignment,” Jones posted on X, formerly Twitter.
Rutschman has not played since April 10 against the San Francisco Giants, dealing with inflammation in his left ankle. He will not have a rehab assignment and instead will return directly to the lineup. The Orioles are 5-5 without Rutschman in the lineup.
Before the injury, the catcher was hitting .294 with a .385 on-base percentage. He does not have a home run, but does have six doubles, three RBIs, and three runs scored in ten games.
Samuel Basallo has been taking the majority of games at catcher with Rutschman out. He is hitting just .167 this year, with three RBIs and seven runs scored. He is expected to return to the designated hitter spot with Rustschman returning behind the plate. Meanwhile, Sam Huff played in three games during Rutschman’s absence. He hit .222 with an RBI and a run scored.
Rutschman could be back in the lineup as early as Tuesday night in game two against the Royals.
The Orioles are now 11-12 on the season, which is third in the AL East, and 2.5 games behind the New York Yankees in the division. After their series with the Royals ends on Wednesday afternoon, the team will return home, hosting the Boston Red Sox for a three-game series starting Friday.
