The Los Angeles Dodgers own three World Series titles since 2020 with manager Dave Roberts. LA created a championship model that Roberts vehemently defended amid criticism. Even Dodgers legend Orel Hershiser has embraced the coaching on display.

Hershiser made a “run through a wall” take when praising Roberts’ leadership Thursday while appearing on the Dodgers Territory podcast.

“I’ve always told him, I would’ve loved to play for him. I would’ve run through a wall for him,” Hershiser said.

Hershiser even ripped the past public perception of Roberts, blasting critics who believed he wasn’t ready lead LA years earlier.

“That got substantiated a little bit because they didn’t go far in the playoffs,” Hershiser added. “Some of the maturity and some of the growth as a manager is reacting to negative things in the press. You have to talk to them three to four times a day and then the fan reactions on talk radio and how you’re going to turn that around. Plus figure out how you won’t let that infiltrate your roster.”

The former Dodgers pitcher has seen growth and believes the criticism “showed great character” out of Roberts.

Hershiser starred in the 1980s and early 1990s for the franchise. He even suited up for a past legendary LA skipper named Tommy Lasorda. The right-handed thrower played in three MLB All-Star games and won the 1988 World Series with Lasorda coaching him.

The Dodgers legends like the direction Roberts put the franchise in. Yet Hershiser doesn’t want to hand LA an “A” grade so far in 2026.
