Olivia Miles makes Minnesota rookie history not seen in 20 years
Minnesota Lynx rookie Olivia Miles has had a phenomenal start to her career. With Napheesa Collier out of the lineup for Minnesota, Miles has stepped up as a key source of offense that has helped the team get off to a 3-2 start. Miles is averaging 15.5 points per game, 5.8 assists, 4.3 rebounds, 1.5 steals, and 1 block on 47% from the field and 94.1% from the free-throw line.
But not only is her game popping out in the box score, Miles has also made history. Per ESPN Insights, the rookie guard has scored in double figures in the last 5 games, and it’s the longest streak by a member of the Lynx since legendary Lynx player Seimone Augustus.
Miles’s transition into her rookie career has been perfect, but still, it has to be a transition. While at TCU, she was a star for the Horned Frogs and a player at the top of the roster. But since being in the WNBA, she’s had to reorient herself as a professional, paying her dues as a rookie while still finding a way to be productive in Minnesota’s lineup.
She spoke about the transition to her rookie experience on Sue Bird’s podcast, Bird’s Eye View.
“I would just say being a rookie. Like I don’t know how to be a rookie. Like it’s just weird. There’s like different things. Like I’m like, can I shoot at this basket? Is that going to take it from me? Can I sit here right now? Do I have to get up there? Like just like stuff like that where I’m kind of navigating, just trying to be respectful, obviously. We have great vets on our team who are amazing. But just trying to be respectful and and learn like the social codes around here has been interesting…”
