Olivia Buzaglo responds after Jean-Philippe Mateta interview that caused Alan Brazil meltdown

Presenter Olivia Buzaglo has spoken out after Jean-Phillipe Mateta was seen with his arm around her during a post-match interview.

The Crystal Palace striker caused a stir on social media when he was captured embracing talkSPORT host Buzaglo during an interview following the Eagles’ Conference League win over Fiorentina.

Mateta scored the opening goal from the penalty spot as Palace cruised to a 3-0 first-leg victory at Selhurst Park on Thursday night.

This was his first goal for the club since his proposed January move to AC Milan fell through on transfer deadline day.

And the Frenchman looked to be in good spirits after the match, when he joined Buzaglo for his post-match interview alongside teammate Tyrick Mitchell.

Mateta could be seen wrapping his arm around the reporter, who was interviewing him on behalf of TNT Sports.

Appearing to see the funny side, Buzaglo then joked: “We are all having a little cuddle here it looks like.”

‘What’s he doing?’

Mateta’s antics with Buzaglo quickly caught the eye of fans online, as well as talkSPORT presenter Alan Brazil.

And it’s fair to say the Scot did not see the funny side to the Crystal Palace star’s cosy interview with his colleague.

Reacting to the footage on Friday’s talkSPORT Breakfast, Brazil said: “I’ve seen worse arrests than that!

“That’s terrible, what’s he doing?”

While the broadcasting legend launched into protective mode, his co-host Shebahn Aherne reasoned that Mateta had been leaning in towards Buzaglo so he could hear her better.

Aherne said: “He’s a big fella, and she’s petite. So I think he’s pulling her in, so he can hear her. Because the fans are behind them.”

But the talkSPORT host then replied: “If I’m ‘Wifey JP [Mateta]’, I’d be like: ‘What are you doing?’”

Buzaglo: No issue with Mateta

Buzaglo has now taken to social media to address the reaction to her interview, where she insisted there is ‘nothing’ in Mateta’s behaviour.

Posting on her Instagram story, Buzaglo wrote: “Well it’s been a bit of a crazy morning with outlets discussing my post match interview with JP Mateta.

“It was a privilege to be working at Crystal Palace last night, a memorable European night for the players and the club.

“I have absolutely no issues whatsoever with JP placing his arm around me.

“It was a nice, relaxed moment where he was obviously very happy and felt comfortable during the interview, after such a brilliant performance.

“Absolutely nothing in it guys. Wishing them good luck in the 2nd leg!!”

Mateta’s goal set Palace on the way to a comfortable 3-0 victory over Fiorentina in their Conference League quarter-final first leg.

After the 28-year-old’s 24th-minute opener, Tyrick Mitchell followed this up with a second just after the half-hour mark.

Ismaila Sarr then grabbed what could be a crucial third in the 90th minute, which appeared to all but secure the Eagles place in the semi-finals.
