Norway’s traveling supporters are turning the 2026 World Cup into a full tour of American sports, and their latest stop landed at the PGA Tour. A wave of red-clad Norwegian fans brought their now-famous Viking Row to the Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut, on Thursday, rowing through the galleries on a sun-soaked afternoon.

The supporters had a clear reason to show up. Norway sent two players into the Travelers field this week in Kristoffer Reitan and Viktor Hovland, giving the fans a pair of homegrown stars to rally behind.

The celebration has become the signature image of Norway’s World Cup return. Fans sit shoulder to shoulder in a longboat formation and row to a building drumbeat, chanting “ro,” the Norwegian word for row. The move draws inspiration from Iceland’s viral Viking Clap at Euro 2016, and it has swept through host cities since the tournament began.

The golf detour fit neatly into a packed week. The fans are in the region for Norway’s World Cup clash with France on Friday outside Boston, and they have already taken their act through Boston, New York and Times Square, even livening up a Mets game at Citi Field along the way.

The timing only adds to the energy. Norway is enjoying its first World Cup since 1998 and has made the most of it. The team opened with a 4-1 rout of Iraq, then edged Senegal 3-2 behind an Erling Haaland double to lock up a spot in the round of 32. That sets up Friday’s group finale against an unbeaten France side, with first place in Group I on the line.

For one of the most fan-friendly stops on the PGA Tour calendar, the Norwegian invasion was a perfect fit. A longboat full of rowing Vikings only turned up the volume.

Wherever Norway heads next, the oars are coming too.
