Newcastle United vs Bournemouth predictions

Pre-season is usually a time for optimism, but that commodity was in short supply among Newcastle United fans this summer.

The sale of key players such as Anthony Gordon, Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali was compounded by Eddie Howe’s exit in July.

In came Matthias Jaissle, a coach with a decent track record but one who was not exactly well known in English football circles.

Even Newcastle supporters expected a slow start to the season. Some pundits even tipped the Magpies for relegation.

What a difference a couple of games makes. It is still early days in 2026/27, but Newcastle and Jaissle have confounded expectations up to now.

It began with a spirited showing on the opening weekend. Newcastle only drew 2-2 with Liverpool, but they were the better team and were seconds away from victory.

They were not to be denied last time out, as the Magpies ran out 2-0 winners away to Tottenham Hotspur.

Next up for Newcastle is a clash with Bournemouth, who are looking for their first win of the season after a defeat by Manchester City (1-2) and a draw with Everton (1-1).

Newcastle United vs Bournemouth tips

Bournemouth make the long trip north to St James’ Park to face Newcastle United on Saturday.

Surprise in store at St James’

Newcastle United have made a fine start to the campaign, but they could come unstuck this weekend.

In a strange way, Liverpool and Tottenham were the ideal opponents in Matthias Jaissle’s first two matches.

Under Eddie Howe, Newcastle were better suited to playing the big boys. They struggled more often against teams they were expected to beat.

On Saturday, the pressure is on Newcastle for the first time this term. Bournemouth, who have a good recent record at St James’ Park, can take advantage.

Attacks vs defences: who wins?

Anthony Elanga and Yoane Wissa would be the first to admit they struggled in their debut seasons at Newcastle United.

But both forwards have enjoyed terrific starts to the current campaign, fuelling hope that they will live up to their transfer fees.

With Wissa and Elanga looking sharp, Newcastle will ask questions of the Bournemouth backline in Saturday’s early kick-off.

Yet the same is true at the other end of the pitch, where the Cherries have the quality to do damage in transition. Goals await at St James’ Park.

Bournemouth carry real threat

Bournemouth sold Antoine Semenyo in January, but they were able to keep hold of their other attackers this summer.

The way he is going, Rayan will not be at the Vitality Stadium for too much longer, however.

The Brazil international is a real talent. He scored five goals in 15 Premier League appearances last season and is hungry for more in 2026/27.

With his speed on the break and skill with the ball at his feet, Rayan will be heavily involved in Bournemouth’s attacking efforts. The 20-year-old will influence this match one way or another.
