Mitch Marner makes Golden Knights history with natural hat trick vs. Ducks
The Vegas Golden Knights lost Game 2 of their series with the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday. There has been talk about concern over their level of play to this point, even with a win in their pocket. However, star winger Mitch Marner has raised his play in a massive way during Game 3.
Marner has scored a natural hat trick against the Ducks. His three goals have given the Golden Knights a commanding 5-1 lead in this contest. And he has also etched his name into franchise history with this feat.
Marner has become the first player in Golden Knights history to score three or more points in consecutive road playoff games, according to NHL Public Relations. Across the entire league, only Mark Scheifele and Steve Payne have recorded longer road playoff point streaks.
The Golden Knights already had a 2-0 lead when Marner added to it in the first period. His goal came on the power play with five seconds remaining in the opening frame. He added his second goal midway through the second. And with a little more than two minutes remaining in the middle frame, he scored his third.
Marner is in the midst of his best postseason performance in the NHL. His six goals in the postseason are a career high. Additionally, he is one point off from tying his career high single-season postseason point total.
The Golden Knights paid Marner a lot of money to help them chase a Stanley Cup. Vegas is seeing some incredible returns early on. If he continues his run of form, he may bring them a Stanley Cup in his debut season, as well.
