The first-year NYK head coach got Towns’ teammates to deliver more cuts in freeing him up. Towns himself loved the approach.
“Opportunities presented themselves and my teammates made it happen today. They made great cuts,” he told reporters postgame.
Towns especially loved how his Knicks approached this series while down 2-1.
“I thought we did a great job coming out with more tenacity, more desperation I think is the proper word,” Towns said. “We understood the magnitude of this game. To be in enemy territory as well.”
He’s fully aware what’s must happen moving forward as the series shifts back to Madison Square Garden.
“It’s going to take an effort like this every game if we expect to come out with a win against a team that’s hungry and has a lot of athleticism, youth and wants the moment,” Towns said. “We’ve got to exceed the moment.”
Towns also added two steals on the defensive side. OG Anunoby led NYK with 22 points. Jalen Brunson added 19 points, Miles McBride scored 11 points while Josh Hart chipped in 10.
