Mike Bloomberg asks Knicks’ Jose Alvarado to ‘just call me’ after courtside incident turns into viral meme

Mike Bloomberg has a suggestion for Jose Alvarado in case there’s another courtside blip.

Bloomberg and Alvarado went viral for their courtside interaction during Game 3 of the NBA Finals, where the Knicks point guard accidentally bumped into the former New York City mayor during a hustle play in the fourth quarter. During the game, Alvarado sat next to Bloomberg to apologize, and the moment went viral as fans online turned it into a meme.

“You have to save it as a PDF,” one fan wrote, alongside a photo of the interaction.

“When you gotta interact with people who do taxes at H&R Block,” another fan wrote.

A fan also made a meme of the two, noting how Alvarado, who is a New York native, might have been chatting with Bloomberg over not getting NYC a snow day: “ZERO snow days growing up, you had my a– walking in 3 feet of snow!”

Fans continued to make memes of the interaction which prompted a response from the former mayor.

“Great to meet NYC’s homegrown star, @AlvaradoJose15. But next time, Jose, just call me. Let’s go Knicks!” Bloomberg wrote on X on June 9.

The Knicks suffered a devastating 115-111 loss to the San Antonio Spurs in Game 3 of the NBA Finals ending their 13 game winning streak in the post season. Not only did the loss set them back to only now lead by one game, the calls by the refferees were also criticized by several players, including Alvarado. In the first quarter, Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama seemingly tossed Knicks’ Jalen Brunson to the ground. Despite that moment being one of the most-talked about moments postgame, Wembanyama did not receive a flagrant foul. That upset Alvarado who stood up for his captain postgame.

“I think that’s not basketball,” said Alvarado about Wembanyama’s foul on Brunson. “That’s something that they gotta look at. But [Wembanyama] got away with one. That’ll be the last one.”

The Knicks now lead 2-1 going into Game 4 at Madison Square Garden. Tip-off is set to begin at 8:30 p.m. ET.
