Micah Richards stuns Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer as he reveals Spice Girl used to babysit him

Micah Richards left Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer in disbelief after revealing Spice Girl Mel B used to babysit him.

In an episode of The Rest is Football taking a deep dive into Manchester United icon David Beckham‘s career, the topic soon turned to his wife Victoria‘s band.

At this point, Richards piped up to reveal that he was on first-name terms with one of the Spice Girls long before they became household names.

The former full-back grew up in Leeds, which is also ‘Scary Spice’ Mel B’s home town.

And he explained how the music icon used to earn some extra cash by looking after him as a child.

Unlikely connection

Richards told Lineker and Shearer on the podcast: “Mel B, she used to babysit me when I was younger.”

This left Lineker in disbelief, who interrupted: “She used to what? Mel B used to babysit you?”

With his co-hosts continuing to look stunned, Richards insisted his story was true.

He shouted: “Get her on the pod! My sister [still] does her hair now.”

A baffled Shearer then chimed in: “Can I just ask… what the f*** am I on here?”, leaving Richards and Lineker in stitches.

And Richards revealed the pair are still in touch, adding: “This is way back, back in Leeds days.

“I spoke to her just a couple of months ago.”

It didn’t take long for his pals to joke about this, as Shearer quipped: “Did she tell you what she wanted, what she really, really wanted?”

On their unlikely connection, Richards added: “It’s not known. You’ve always got to save something for the pod, haven’t you? Always have something up your sleeve.

“I don’t remember too much of it but there were obviously pictures back in the day, yeah.”

Lineker then jokingly asked Richards if Mel B is likely to tell people she used to babysit him, prompting him to reply: “Of course she does!”

Top of their fields

It’s fair to say both Richards and Mel B have come a long way since their paths first crossed.

The pair have both enjoyed huge success in their wildly different careers, with the Spice Girls icon rising to fame in the 1990s.

The girl group shot to game with their debut single Wannabe in 1996, while Mel B – real name Melanie Brown McPhee – has remained in the public eye after the band split in 2001.

She has appeared on TV shows The Masked Singer Australia and America’s Got Talent, as well as Celebrity Gogglebox.

Meanwhile Richards made a name for himself as a teenage sensation for Man City and England, making his international debut at 18.

He won the Premier League and FA Cup with the Citizens, before joining Fiorentina on loan, and later signing permanently for Aston Villa in 2015.

But injuries then Richards retire at just 31 in 2019, who has since gone on to forge a successful career as a pundit for the likes of Sky Sports, CBS and the BBC.
