Mets’ Kodai Senga drops optimistic outlook after injury setback

The New York Mets have had a tough season. One of the reasons is due to a plethora of injuries on the team. Mets starting pitcher Kodai Senga is one of those players who has been hurt.

Senga had a positive message to send out after it was revealed he was getting scratched from a rehab start Tuesday. This is due to nerve irritation in his right arm.

“If we continue to stack together good days and feel like I’m prepared, I don’t think getting back into a game is too far away,” Senga said through an interpreter, per SNY.

It has been a difficult road for Senga over the last few seasons.

“Senga has been a puzzling case since signing a five-year, $75 million contract with the Mets out of Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball in December 2022. He was an All-Star in his debut season with a 2.98 ERA but lost virtually all of 2024 to injury and struggled mightily in 2025, accepting a demotion to the Minor Leagues near the season’s end,” MLB.com reported.

The Mets pitcher has started five games this season. He has yet to post a victory. His ERA is also a rocky 9.00. In his last outing on April 26, Senga lasted just two-plus innings in an outing against the Colorado Rockies.

Senga’s rehab appearances since then have also been less than encouraging.

“On June 3 with Syracuse, Senga extended to five innings on 91 pitches (54 strikes) but again walked two with two hit batsmen. He struck out five, allowing three runs on six hits,” the outlet added.

New York is last in the National League East this year. The Mets are 29-36 on the campaign. New York plays the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday.

New York has seven wins in their last 10 games.
