Max Meyer joins Marlins royalty with seventh win of 2026

Max Meyer continues his hot start to the 2026 season on Sunday, outdueling Paul Skenes to lead the Miami Marlins to a 4-2 victory. In the process, Meyer etched his name into Marlins history.

With the win, the right-hander moved to 7-0 on the season. He joined Livan Hernandez and Dontrelle Willis as the only Marlins pitchers in history to win their first seven decisions in a season, via MLB Stats.

Against the Pirates, Meyer pitched six innings of one-run baseball, allowing six hits and three walks while striking out nine. He has made 14 starts total for Miami, holding a 2.85 ERA and an 86/29 K/BB ratio.

Meyer has at least five strikeouts in all but one of his appearances this season. Furthermore, after a five-run blow up against the New York Mets, Meyer has allowed two or fewer runs in his last three starts. While pitching wins aren’t necessarily an individual stat, the Marlins certainly won’t complain about the outcome.

Meyer is a former top prospect, ranking as high as third-best as recently as 2024. However, he had struggled in his MLB career leading up to 2026. He still holds a career 4.35 ERA after posting a 4.73 in 2025 and 5.68 in 2024. In 2026 though, Meyer has found another gear and has finally looked like the top prospect they expected him to be.

But even with the victories, the Marlins are still 10.5 games back of the Atlanta Braves in the NL East with their 36-36 record. Miami has had plenty of highs throughout their season, but they’ll need to find some consistency if they want to make a playoff push.

As they try to make that push, and continue building towards that future, Meyer is trying to prove he deserves a long-term role in the rotation.
