Mariners make franchise history after Bryce Miller’s stellar start vs. Tigers
The Seattle Mariners made franchise history Saturday, and Bryce Miller’s stellar start vs. the Detroit Tigers pushed them there. The right-hander delivered six scoreless innings in a 4-0 win at Comerica Park, allowing one hit and striking out nine.
Miller’s outing gave the Mariners another strong rotation performance and moved the club into a select group in its record book. The Mariners allowed only one hit through eight innings before Detroit added another in the ninth, underscoring how thoroughly Seattle controlled the afternoon.
Seattle has now produced six starts this season of at least six innings with one or fewer hits allowed. Their total leads MLB in 2026 and ties the franchise’s single-season record, previously reached in 2015 and 2023.
The Mariners PR team shared the milestone Saturday on X, formerly Twitter, after Miller added his name to a rotation-wide achievement during the shutout victory.
“The @Mariners have had 6 starts of at least 6.0 IP and 1-or-fewer hits this season from 4 different pitchers:
Emerson Hancock (2x)
Bryan Woo (2x)
Logan Gilbert

The 6 starts lead @MLB in 2026 and tie a single-season franchise record (also: 2015 & 2023).”

Seattle matched the franchise mark before the midpoint of June, highlighting the consistency of its starting rotation.
The achievement also shows that the Mariners have not depended on one ace. Emerson Hancock and Bryan Woo have each done it twice, while Logan Gilbert and Miller have added one apiece.
That depth matters in a crowded AL West race. After Saturday’s win, Seattle moved to 34-31 and remained in first place, extending its lead over the Texas Rangers to 2.5 games and over the Athletics to three games.
The 27-year-old right-hander’s start protected the bullpen, shut down the Tigers bats, and reinforced why the Mariners rotation can anchor a postseason push. For Seattle, Saturday was more than one clean win. It was another reminder that their staff is building one of the best low-hit runs in franchise history.
