Manu Ginobili catches Argentina-Jordan World Cup match at AT&T Stadium

Manu Ginobili was in the building at AT&T Stadium on Sunday, taking in Argentina’s World Cup group stage match against Jordan. The San Antonio Spurs legend was spotted in the stands in Arlington, Texas, watching his country close out the group stage.

Cameras caught the NBA Hall of Famer soaking in the atmosphere alongside family.

Ginobili picked a good one to attend. Argentina rolled to a 3-1 win over Jordan to finish top of Group J with a perfect record. Giovani Lo Celso and Lautaro Martinez scored inside the first half hour, and Lionel Messi came off the bench to curl in a free kick late. Mousa Tamari grabbed a consolation goal for Jordan.

Ginobili is one of the most decorated athletes in Argentine history, and his connection to the national team runs deep. He made his name in basketball rather than football, but he has long been one of the country’s proudest sporting figures, and his presence at the match underlined how much the World Cup means back home.

On the court, Ginobili led Argentina to the top of the international game. The crowning achievement came at the 2004 Athens Olympics, where he guided La Albiceleste to the gold medal, beating the United States along the way in one of the sport’s great upsets. It remains the best finish in Argentine basketball history.

Ginobili stacked up more hardware with the national team, adding a bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and a silver at the 2002 World Championship. He was the face of Argentina’s golden generation, the group that turned the country into a global basketball power.

His NBA resume is just as glittering. Ginobili won four championships with the San Antonio Spurs and earned induction into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2022.

For one afternoon, though, he was just another Argentine fan, cheering on Messi and company as they marched into the knockout rounds.
