City head across town brimming with confidence after a 2-0 victory away at Newcastle in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final.
The win was a significant statement against the reigning champions, particularly given Newcastle’s strong form and formidable home record.
Pep Guardiola’s side are currently enjoying an impressive run of form, unbeaten in 13 matches in all competitions, of which they’ve won 10. That sequence includes an emphatic FA Cup third-round display last weekend, where City ran riot with a 10-goal haul against Exeter.
With cup commitments temporarily set aside, City’s focus now returns to the Premier League. Sitting second in the table, the Cityzens will be keen to reduce the six-point gap to leaders Arsenal as the title race begins to intensify.
Although City endured patchy form away from home during the opening months of the season, recent performances suggest those issues have been addressed.
They arrive at Old Trafford having won five of their last six league games on the road, with their only dropped points coming against a Sunderland side who remain unbeaten at home this term.

Saturday’s lunchtime clash will mark Michael Carrick’s first match in charge of Manchester United since being appointed interim manager until the end of the season following the dismissal of Ruben Amorim and a brief caretaker stint overseen by Darren Fletcher.
Carrick, who previously managed the club for three matches on a caretaker basis in 2021, takes over a side struggling for consistency, having won just once in their last seven outings.
United’s FA Cup third-round defeat to Brighton on Sunday extended their winless run to four matches. However, it is worth noting that the Red Devils have suffered only one defeat in their last five, with three successive draws preceding that loss.
Once boasting one of the league’s strongest home records, winning four of their first five matches at Old Trafford, United’s form in front of their supporters has since dipped, with just one victory from their last six home league games following Sunday’s defeat.
Recent derby meetings have been finely balanced, with both sides claiming two wins apiece across the last five encounters. That said, United have managed just one victory in the last four Manchester derbies.
