Magic’s Jamahl Mosley admits there’s a lot to figure out before Game 7

It boggles the mind just thinking about how improbable it will be for the Orlando Magic to shake off such a disastrous Game 6 loss to the Detroit Pistons that saw them get outscored 55-19 in the second half en route to a 93-79 loss for Orlando.

The Magic had such a golden opportunity to close out the series being up 60-38 at the half in a series they led, 3-2, and now, it is going to be so damaging to the entire team’s psyche to have fumbled the bag that badly.

Orlando’s offense collapsed so horrendously in the second half; in fact, in the fourth quarter, the Magic made just one of their 20 field-goal attempts. That is no way to win a closeout game.

After the game, Magic head coach Jamahl Mosley admitted that while the second half was an unmitigated disaster for them, they have to remember how well they played in the first half and understand that they can play at the requisite level to beat the odds and take Game 7 on the road against the Pistons.

“The ability to do it in the first half, is something you can lean your hat on a little bit, the defensive mentality, the offensive sharing the basketball, moving it, the shot-making — so, you are somewhere in the middle. And I think that is something we have to register and understand, we are somewhere in the middle, that you can go and figure out a way to get Game 7 in Detroit,” Mosley said, per Ryan Kaminski of SI.

As one would recall, Mosley showed the entire Magic team clips of themselves back in college to motivate them following their play-in tournament loss to the Philadelphia 76ers. This worked, as they would blow the Charlotte Hornets out in the fight for the eighth seed, and they are still one win away from making it to the second round of the 2026 NBA playoffs.

Mosley may have to resort to some unorthodox motivational tactics to bring some life back to a Magic team that might be dead, morale-wise, after such a soul-crushing defeat.
