Macclesfield v Brentford prediction

Macclesfield head into tonight’s fourth round FA Cup clash as the final remaining non-league team left in the competition, still with fresh memories of pulling off statistically the biggest shock in the history of the competition in the last round.

Last month, National League North side Macclesfield defeated the defending FA Cup champions Crystal Palace to book their place in the fourth round of the competition for the first time in the club’s history, the biggest upset in terms of league position ever.

Managed by Wayne Rooney’s brother, John, the Silkmen currently sit seventh in the National League North, albeit with multiple games in hand on all of the teams around them due to their FA Cup commitments.

The Cheshire side have won each of their last three matches ahead of the visit of tonight’s Premier League opposition, as as well as each of their last six at Moss Rose in all competitions, including that famous win over the reigning FA Cup champions.

Tonight will be Macclesfield’s seventh FA Cup match of the campaign, having entered the competition in the second qualifying round, starting with a 3-0 win over ninth-tier side Atherton Laburnum Rovers to kickstart their run to the fourth round proper.

Brentford head into tonight’s crunch clash in a strong run of form of their own, picking up seven points from their last three matches, only dropping points against Premier League leaders Arsenal.

The strong run of form in recent weeks has seen Keith Andrews’ side into seventh place in the Premier League table, just two points behind sixth-placed Liverpool in a season many expected them to struggle in.

A win for the Bees tonight against sixth-tier opposition would be their first time reaching the fifth round of the FA Cup in seven years, and would put them just one win away from equalling their best ever performance in the competition.

Brentford head to Cheshire as overwhelming favourites but will come up against a Macclesfield side roaring with confidence following their win over Crystal Palace last month, and will be well up for the task at repeating the feat, a close game be expected, but I’m predicting a 2-1 away win.

Macclesfield v Brentford betting tips

Bees back in round five

Both teams head into tonight’s clash in good form, with Macclesfield roared on by their local faithful and high on confidence having already knocked out the defending champions.

The Silkmen will provide a tough test for the Bees, but for the visitors quality should shine through.

Thiago on target again

Only Erling Haaland has scored more Premier League goals this season than Igor Thiago, who has 18 goals in all competitions looking to fire the Bees into the fifth round of the FA Cup.

Kay carded

Combative Macclesfield midfielder Josh Kay has been on the receiving end of more yellow cards than any other Silkmen teammate in the FA Cup since their first round clash against Totton, having picked two cautions in three appearances and will be in for another busy night tonight.
