Luke Kennard injury could sideline him for Lakers’ Game 2 vs. Thunder

The Los Angeles Lakers fell 108-90 in Game 1 to the Oklahoma City Thunder. During that contest, Jarred Vanderbilt suffered a gruesome finger dislocation, making his status doubtful for Game 2. While Vanderbilt’s status was expected, Luke Kennard’s injury update came as a surprise to many.

L.A. revealed that Kennard, who is 29 years old, popped up on the latest injury report on Wednesday with neck soreness, according to NBA reporter Jovan Buha. The Lakers have already deemed Kennard questionable for the second match against the Thunder on Thursday.

“Lakers’ injury report for Game 2 vs. OKC,” said Buah.
“Luke Kennard (neck soreness) QUESTIONABLE.
Jarred Vanderbilt (right finger dislocation) DOUBTFUL.
Luka Doncic (left hamstring strain) OUT.”

The questionable tag gives Kennard a chance to be available for the Lakers’ next game against the Thunder. However, it’s not an ideal situation considering Los Angeles is already such an underdog for the series.

Luke Kennard played a crucial role for the Lakers in the first round of the NBA Playoffs against the Houston Rockets. The nine-year veteran recorded 27, 23, and 14 points in the first three games against the Rockets. L.A. needs performances like that in Round 2 against the Thunder. But if Kennard is injured, those games may not come.

In seven games played in the postseason so far, Kennard is averaging 11.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.0 steals per contest. He is shooting 43.3% from the field and hitting 40.7% from beyond the three-point line.

This story is currently developing, and more information will be published soon.
