Luka Doncic plea forces urgent NBA decision as ‘dangerous’ Lakers court deemed unplayable for Mavericks game

The Los Angeles Lakers’ NBA Cup court will not be used for Friday’s clash with the Dallas Mavericks.

Technicians from the NBA‘s court vendor ruled that the surface is unplayable, per ESPN’s Dave McMenamin.

It will be sent back to the vendor for repairs and the game will go ahead on the Lakers’ regular court.

On Tuesday, controversy overshadowed a 135-118 victory over the LA Clippers .

Players on both teams were slipping throughout the NBA Cup game.

Lakers star Luka Doncic led the complaints after scoring 43 points.

“Adjust the courts, please,” he pleaded. “It’s just slippery. It’s dangerous.

“I slipped a lot of times. You could see a lot of players slipped. That’s dangerous, man.

“I think they’re just new courts, so it’s kind of tough. It needs… playing some games.”

The Lakers have won Group B and will advance to the knockout stage.

Seedings have not yet been announced and it isn’t clear if the court will be ready in time for the resumption of this year’s tournament if the Lakers land a home quarterfinal.

“That was bad,” Lakers forward Rui Hachimura said about the surface. “I felt it right away when I was warming up.

“It just felt weird. Just like oily, slippery. Everybody was on the floor, literally.”

Lakers won Luka Doncic-Anthony Davis trade

Anthony Davis, who was traded to Dallas as part of the Doncic deal will return to a familiar arena.

He has averaged 20.8 points and 10.2 rebounds when fit but injuries have followed him to Texas.

Unavailability and a 5-14 start have led to claims that Davis may be traded.

Doncic is averaging 35.2 points per game, 9.2 assists and 8.8 rebounds.

The Lakers are 13-4 and going strong.
