Luka Doncic hits NBA record not seen since Michael Jordan in 1986 as LeBron James creates instant meme

Luka Doncic is on an absolute tear in the NBA right now.

Although their nine-game winning streak was snapped by the Detroit Pistons on Monday, the Los Angeles Lakers sought quickly get back to winning ways.

Against the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday, who sit bottom of the Eastern Conference with star Tyrese Haliburton still out after suffering an Achilles injury in the 2025 NBA Finals, Doncic spearheaded the Purple and Gold to a thumping 137-130 win on the road.

Erupting for a game-high 43 points, seven assists and six rebounds, the Slovenian superstar did something nobody in the NBA has been able to do since Michael Jordan back in 1986 – average 40 points over a six-game span on the road.

In doing so, the 27-year-old – who is now very much in the MVP conversation – surpassed both Anthony Davis and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in all-time 40-point games donning the Purple and Gold jersey.

Having undergone a serious body transformation since the blockbuster trade to LA from the Dallas Mavericks stunned the Association, Doncic has now taken the Lakers to 47-26 on the season.

They now sit in third in the Western Conference standings with nine regular season games remaining, behind only the reigning champions Oklahoma City Thunder and San Antonio Spurs.

But the six-time All-Star isn’t just doing it all by himself.

Austin Reaves dropped 25 points, eight assists and two steals in the contest to ensure JJ Redick‘s men finished their road trip 5-1.

Furthermore, Doncic also has superstar talent in his own frontcourt with LeBron James at 41 years young still proving to be an absolute menace on the hardwood.

In the win over the Pacers, with WNBA superstar Caitlin Clark up close to the action having been an accredited photographer for the contest, James came just one assist and one rebound shy of a triple-double, finishing with 23-9-9.

At one point in the game, James skilfully side-stepped past Pacers guard Andrew Nembhard with a Eurostep, while he was mid-air trying to block his shot attempt.

Having got away from his defender, he saw the oncoming Pascal Siakam and Aaron Nesmith desperately sprinting towards the rim to try and get the block attempt.

But in hilarious fashion, they both missed the ball and were sent crashing to the floor under the basket.

The cameras picked up the 22-time All-Star’s reaction to having evaded all three Pacers, with James pointing to his two opponents crumpled in a heap on the floor before running back down the court.

An instant meme created by the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, fans flooded to social media to comment on this particular play.

“Age is just a number. This man is cooking pros in 2026 like it’s 2010. Unreal. Euro-step into chaos and then the point-down… LeBron all timer energy right there LeBron made them look silly then pointed like ‘both y’all’ GOAT behavior,” one fan wrote on X.

“LeBron is funny as heck. Hail to the King and the GOAT ,” a second fan commented.

James is still prominent on the Lakers offense even though he is 41

“Le LeBron James really cooked TWO defenders and had the audacity to point at them after That’s not just a bucket… that’s disrespect at the highest level ‍,” a third added.

Of the Lakers’ nine remaining regular season games, they play four teams who have been eliminated from the post-season and who are vying for the greatest chance of landing the No. 1 overall pick in the 2027 NBA Draft (Brooklyn Nets, Washington Wizards, Mavericks, Utah Jazz).

They also have to take on the Cleveland Cavaliers, Phoenix Suns and Golden State Warriors, as well as two contests against the Thunder.

Whether they keep hold of that third seed in the West remains to be seen, with Nikola Jokic‘s Denver Nuggets and Anthony Edward‘s Minnesota Timberwolves bearing down on Doncic, James and co, just 1.5 and two games back, respectively.
