LSU basketball rumors: Will Wade’s Tigers are top candidate for PJ Haggerty

Will Wade and the LSU Tigers could be in strong pursuit of one of the best players in the transfer portal in PJ Haggerty.

Haggerty is in the search for his next team throughout his collegiate career. He represented TCU, Tulsa, Memphis, and most recently Kansas State before entering the transfer portal once again.

Nearing the end of his collegiate career, he would be due for a solid fit alongside Wade and the Tigers. On3 insider Joe Tipton revealed some insight into the scenario of Haggerty going to LSU ahead of the 2026-27 season.

“PJ Haggerty was the third-leading scorer in college basketball this season, averaging more than 23 PPG. The former Kansas State guard is back in the portal, and LSU is a school to watch. Will Wade pursued Haggerty hard while at NC State and even signed him to the Wolfpack. However, things fell through once NC State landed Darrion Williams, which ultimately led to Haggerty choosing Kansas State,” Tipton wrote.

Will Wade and LSU would greatly benefit from adding PJ Haggerty to the roster.

Haggerty stands out as one of the best players in the country, producing 20 or more points per game throughout the last three seasons. This latest campaign for Kansas State continued to showcase solid individual success for Haggerty.

Haggerty produced 23.4 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 1.2 steals per game throughout 31 appearances this past season. He shot 48.9% from the field, including 35.1% from beyond the arc, and 70.1% from the free-throw line.

Wade looks forward to starting his second stint with the Tigers. He boasted a 105-51 overall record in his first tenure from 2017 to 2022, getting them to three NCAA Tournament appearances.

LSU is coming off a brutal campaign this past year. The Tigers finished with a 15-17 overall record, which featured a woeful 3-15 display in their SEC matchups. Their last March Madness appearance was in 2022, which was Wade’s last year before returning this offseason.
