Lonzo Ball still takes Stephen Curry over Jalen Brunson as Team USA PG in 2028

New York Knicks guard Jalen Brunson had a beautiful mic drop moment during their championship parade on Thursday when he talked about choosing grace over clapping back at haters.

It perfectly encapsulated his inspired ascent as one of the NBA’s elite players. Brunson has probably heard every slight there is—about his size, about his speed, about his lack of athleticism, about being a nepo baby, etc. He shut down all of them with a performance for the ages in the NBA Finals.

Brunson’s journey should echo for Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry. He heard similar criticisms when he entered the NBA, before proving everyone wrong when he carried the Warriors to the title in 2015, ending a 40-year drought. For good measure, he added three more rings.

ThBrunson is at his peak, while Curry is in the twilight of his career. But for NBA guard Lonzo Ball, he would still pick Curry over Brunson for Team USA in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, even though the two-time MVP would be 39 years old by then.

“Let me tell you this, if Chef comes—Brunson had a tremendous finals, by the way, but I gotta go Steph,” said Ball on “Ball in the Family Podcast.”

It was not a knock on Brunson by any means, but more of a praise for Curry. After all, the future Hall of Famer helped Team USA win the gold medal in the 2024 Paris Olympics with back-to-back iconic performances in the semifinal against Serbia and in the final against France. It was Curry’s first stint in the Summer Games.

Brunson, meanwhile, was the captain of Team USA in the 2023 FIBA World Cup. They finished in fourth place. Many felt that he was snubbed from the roster for the 2024 Paris Olympics, with the last slot going to Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton.

That also probably fueled Brunson to prove everyone wrong. But as he said in his powerful speech, he does not have to say anything. His ring speaks for itself.
