Logan O’Connor’s painfully honest take on Golden Knights sweep

The Colorado Avalanche are out of the Stanley Cup Playoffs after a loss on Tuesday night. The Avalanche were swept by the Vegas Golden Knights in the 2026 Western Conference Finals. It’s a completely unexpected result, especially with the manner in which Vegas won the series. However, it is one that forward Logan O’Connor may have foreseen just a bit.

O’Connor demanded more urgency from his teammates after a collapse in Game 2. Colorado responded with another collapse in Game 3 of the West Final. And that snowballed into a near no-show in Game 4 on Tuesday night. After the game, O’Connor remained quite honest with his assessment of what happened.

“Yeah, happened fast. I think we let Games 2 and 3 slip away from us. Super uncharacteristic from our group to give up leads like that, especially in consecutive games. Drifted away from the game plan, they made us pay. They were opportunistic off of mistakes, and like I mentioned… I don’t think a single guy in this locker room played to the standards that we expect,” the Avalanche forward said, via Denver Gazette reporter Evan Rawal.

The Avalanche did not bring a ton of energy to Game 4. They certainly had their chances to score and tie this game. Unfortunately, Gabe Landeskog found the back of the net too late for the goal to mean much.

Colorado will likely do a bit of soul-searching this summer to see what went wrong. And it will be very interesting to see how the team bounces back from this loss in 2026-27.
