Liverpool fan tells club to avoid signing Vinicius Jr because 17-year-old star will be better

Liverpool wouldn’t sign Vinicius Jr because Rio Ngumoha will surpass him as one of the world’s best footballers.

That’s the confident view of one Reds fan, who called into talkSPORT following the news of interest in Vinicius Jr from Arsenal.

The Premier League champions are understood to be contemplating a move for the Real Madrid winger this summer.

Vinicius Jr, who is regarded as one of the best players on the planet, is into the final year of his contract at the Bernabeu.

Liverpool have been offered the chance to sign the 26-year-old, but chose not to pursue a deal.

And supporter Paul has explained that there is no need for them to do so, because he believes teenage star Ngumoha is the real deal.

“There’s two reasons why Liverpool wouldn’t sign a player like Vinicius Jr,” he said on The Transfer Insiders. “Number one, he’s a bad seed for the dressing room.

“But, more importantly, he’s nowhere near as good as what Rio Ngumoha’s going to prove to be, nowhere near.”

Ngumoha signed for Liverpool from Chelsea in 2024 and has since made 30 senior appearances for the club.

He scored the winner in a 3-2 victory over Newcastle United on his Premier League debut in August.

The winger later became the youngest player to score his first goal at Anfield in a 2-0 win against Fulham.

England boss Thomas Tuchel then handed him his first international cap in the 1-0 pre-World Cup friendly win versus New Zealand.

Other side of the coin

Arsenal are yet to engage in club-to-club talks for Vinicius Jr, who has 128 goals and 100 assists for Madrid in 375 appearances.

He is also viewed as an option for the Gunners rather than a number one target.

However, with Madrid working to sign Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig, the possibility of Vinicius Jr leaving could increase.

It would be a statement signing for Arsenal, and one Gunners fan went as far as to say that he could reach deity status.

“I’ve got to be a little bit balanced, because obviously there’s a long way to go,” Nicholas said when asked about his excitement for a deal.

“But this will be the first time, I think, in our history that we’ve signed not just a good player, but the best player from one of the biggest clubs in European football.

“It just doesn’t happen, usually it’s the other way around. We’re so used to Manchester City and Real Madrid hand-picking all of our best players.

“It wasn’t too long ago when we had to sell players because we couldn’t afford to keep them, or we weren’t good enough. Now, we are the Premier League champions, the best team in England by far.

“And we have a unique opportunity because he’s only got one year left on his contract.

“Real Madrid cannot afford to let one of their biggest assets go away for nothing, so it all comes down to what Vini wants, really.

“Does he want to become number two at Real Madrid, number two to (Kylian) Mbappe?

“Or does he want to come to Arsenal and become, pretty much, a footballing God?”
