LIV Golf Mexico City broadcast starts with firm denial of closure reports
LIV Golf has been in the news plenty in the week following the Masters Tournament, but not for the reasons that any of them would want to be. After Rory McIlroy beat out Tyrrell Hatton and a number of other LIV stars to win his second green jacket, rumors began to circulate that LIV may be going under soon as the Saudi-backed PIF considered pulling their funding.
A lot of different scenarios and rumors were floated, before it was officially reported that the Saudi funding would continue throughout the rest of the year before it was pulled. LIV Golf is going on as planned until then, but it is unclear what the tour may look like beyond that without the funding.
In the meantime, LIV Golf Mexico City is carrying on as usual on Thursday. The first round got underway on Thursday afternoon, and announcers Arlo White and David Feherty shot down rumors that the league might be discontinued in the near future.
LIV Golf Mexico City is underway.
At the top of the broadcast, Arlo White says the reports of LIV's imminent demise "were greatly exaggerated."

At the moment, most of the stars that came over from the PGA Tour to LIV Golf are still there. Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm and Hatton are still the faces of the tour. DeChambeau and Rahm turned down a chance to go back to the PGA Tour earlier this year when asked.
Brooks Kopeka did take that offer, which was only offered to the recent major champions on LIV and came with heavy fines and penalties. At the moment, it remains unclear if that route would still be open for the likes of DeChambeau and Rahm if LIV were to be discontinued at any point.
For now, the two of them are focused on the LIV Mexico City tournament along with the rest of their teams. Victor Perez lit up the first round with a 9-under 62, giving him a three-shot lead through 18 holes. Rahm is sitting alone in second place at 6-under par after a solid round of 65, while DeChambeau has struggled mightily during his first round and is currently out of contention.
