League Two manager sacked as shocking run puts club’s EFL future at risk

Tranmere Rovers have sacked manager Andy Crosby after losing 10 of their last 11 games in League Two.

Crosby was appointed as permanent Tranmere boss after a caretaker spell last May, but he has been dismissed 10 months later.

Rovers’ woeful form has put their place in the EFL under threat, with them currently sitting 19th in the fourth tier.

They are only eight points clear of the relegation zone with 11 games to go, while teams below them have games in hand.

And a 3-1 loss against relegation rivals Newport County on Tuesday evening was enough for the club to make a change.

Announcing the news in a statement on Wednesday, Tranmere wrote: “Tranmere Rovers can confirm that Andy Crosby has been relieved of his duties as first team manager with immediate effect.

“Andy Parkinson will take interim control for Saturday, and Connor Jennings will step up to assist alongside Joe Murphy.”

Meanwhile, chairman Mark Palios said: “Andy did a great job for us last year and has undoubtedly been dealt a tough hand this season with the exceptionally high level of injuries we have experienced.

“However, I felt a change was unfortunately necessary to try to address the poor run of results.

“I have no doubt that Andy has put his all into the role over the last 12 months in difficult circumstances, and I wish him all the best for the future.”

Crosby originally stood in as interim manager last year after former manager Nigel Adkins was sacked in February 2025.

But he was given the job permanently and he helped lead Tranmere to safety amid a relegation battle last season.

He won six and drew five of his 13 games in charge in the 2024/25 campaign, which saw his side avoid the drop.

However, Tranmere have now only won twice since the new year, with one of those coming on New Year’s Day.

Their only other win came on February 14 at home to Crawley.

Fans force change

On Tuesday, Tranmere’s Official Supporters Club made a statement asking for the club to make a change amid their form.

They wrote on X: “Having previously commented on our unacceptable run of terrible results & performances and demanding an improvement in both organisation and commitment, the TROSC would like to passionately and strongly echo the feelings of supporters:

“The management team’s position is now untenable and we need immediate change.”
