Laura Woods shocked as she hits treble 20 to win darts match with Luke Littler

If Laura Woods ever wants a change from being a sports presenter, a career playing darts might not be out of the question.

Woods was joined by darts superstars Luke Humphries and Luke Littler alongside Everton hero Duncan Ferguson on ITV‘s World Cup set in New York.

Given Woods and Ferguson were in the midst of a former world champion and the reigning king of the oche, it was only right that a two-versus-two darts contest took place.

Woods was paired up with two-time world champ Littler while Ferguson and Humphries formed a temporary alliance.

In a battle for the highest score, each team had nine darts to throw, with Woods and Ferguson throwing six.

Unsurprisingly, Littler and Humphries had little trouble at pinning the higher scores.

It all then came down to Woods for the final three darts and needing 42 to win.

In sensational scenes, Woods bedded her first dart into treble 20, meaning she scored 60.

Holding up her remaining two darts, Woods joyfully exclaimed: “I don’t even need these! I don’t even need them!”

After hugging teammate Littler, Woods then gave a consolation hug to Ferguson, who earlier hit a treble 20 of his own.

Before the coverage went to an ad break, Woods added: “I can’t believe that just happened. I’m never going to recover.”

Why were Littler and Humphries on ITV’s World Cup coverage?

Humphries and Littler are in the Big Apple ahead of the US Darts Masters, which gets underway on Thursday.

The tournament will take place inside The Theater at Madison Square Garden and also features a star-studded line-up including former world champion Gerwyn Price, Gian van Veen and Stephen Bunting.

Humphries and Littler will be in a particularly good mood for the event after they recently combined to represent England and win the World Cup of Darts.

The duo beat the Dutch pairing of Van Veen and Michael van Gerwen 10-5 to claim England’s second World Cup of Darts title in three years.

Humphries goes into the US Darts Masters as the defending champion having beaten Nathan Aspinall 8-6 in last year’s final.

As for Littler, the US Darts Masters is one of the few tournaments he is yet to win.

But with a tidy £30,000 on the line for the winner, ‘The Nuke’ has every reason to go all out and add some funds to a bank balance that is already over £4m.
