Lane Hutson ties Canadiens’ franchise record amid crucial Game 3 vs. Sabres
Lane Hutson has been the architect of the Montreal Canadiens’ offensive success from the backend for the past two seasons, and he is continuing to make history for a franchise that already has plenty of it. Last year’s Calder Trophy winner has two assists in the Canadiens’ Game 3 domination of the Buffalo Sabres in front of a raucous Bell Centre, setting a longstanding franchise record, according to NHL PR via X, formerly Twitter.
“Lane Hutson recorded his third career multi-point game in the playoffs and tied Mathieu Schneider for the most by a Canadiens defenseman before age 23,” the stat read.
The two assists lifted Hutson’s point total to nine over the 10 playoff games thus far. It wouldn’t be surprising to see the defenseman record a couple more multi-point games before this postseason run is over for the Canadiens, potentially taking himself out of the tie for this record and also setting some playoff scoring marks along the way.
Hutson hasn’t missed a game in his NHL career since signing for the final two games of the 2023-24 season. After an outstanding rookie season in which he recorded 66 points in 82 games, he smashed that mark this season with 78 in 82, including doubling his goal total from six to 12.
The Canadiens earned a victory over the Sabres on Sunday night, grabbing a 2-1 series lead before a huge Game 4 with a chance to take a stranglehold on the series. It won’t be easy for Buffalo to steal any games on the road in Montreal’s playoff environment.
