Lakers rumors: Insider makes $50 million LeBron James prediction

There’s a way Los Angeles Lakers All-Star LeBron James stays for at least two more seasons, with the option to head elsewhere on the latter half of a new two-year, $50 million contract. While early reports indicate it’s still too early for James to decide on which team he will be playing for in 2026-27, one insider is predicting LeBron plays for the Lakers for at least one more season.

A two-year deal for James was proposed by the Los Angeles Times’ Brad Turner, per Oh No He Didn’t’s X (formerly Twitter).

“I’m gonna throw this out there: he comes back on a two-year deal at $25 mil per season with a player option and a no-trade clause. Therefore, he gets his $50 million. He just does not get it in one season,” Turner said. “It gives him the option to leave — if he wants to — to go play somewhere else. That’s his choice. I’m negotiating the deal right there.”

Giving James the flexibility to decide his own destiny is the kind of deal he’s accepted in the past, especially by limiting the long term to two-year deals with a player option added on the backend.

LeBron James’ camp tells insider to shut up about free agency speculation

As fans continue to speculate about his next move, LeBron James and the Lakers haven’t met yet, suggesting it’s still very early in the free-agent process. James’ camp isn’t thrilled over the constant guesses as the rumor mill continues to reveal potential options for next season.

Either way, James himself can’t answer the question as to whether he’ll stay with the Lakers or not, according to The Stein Line’s insider Jake Fischer.

“I’ve been told to hold off on speculating where LeBron’s gonna sign, from LeBron’s side, because I think it’s very early in that regard,” said Fischer.

James will make his decision over the summer.
