Knicks’ OG Anunoby injury update suggests he’ll be ready for ECF Game 1

The New York Knicks are currently gearing up for the Eastern Conference Finals, which will get underway on Tuesday evening against either the Detroit Pistons or the Cleveland Cavaliers, depending on the result of Game 7. The Knicks will have had over a week to rest for that matchup after sweeping the Philadelphia 76ers in round two of the playoffs.

The Knicks won the last two games of the 76ers series without OG Anunoby, who suffered a hamstring strain at the end of Game 2. However, now, the team has gotten a positive update on the forward’s status heading into Game 1.

“OG Anunoby practiced again Saturday with the New York Knicks,” reported Brian Mahoney of the Associated Press.

“It didn’t feel as bad as the past when it happened,” Anunoby said. “So knowing that, just trying to improve it day by day.”

Anunoby suffered a hamstring strain in the 2024 Eastern Conference semis against the Indiana Pacers that kept him out of the end of that series, with his heroic attempt to play in Game 7 of that matchup ending quickly.

This time, however, it seems that the strain was thankfully not as severe, and the star figures to be healthy heading into Game 1 of what will likely be a physically taxing series, regardless of the opponent.

Up until his injury, Anunoby was playing arguably the best basketball of anyone on the Knicks, shooting a scorching percentage from three to go along with his usual elite defense and rim pressure.

In any case, the Knicks will be among the many interested fans watching when the Cavs and Pistons play for a spot in the Eastern Conference Finals on Sunday at 8:00 pm ET.
