Knicks’ KAT gives OG Anunoby’s Game 4 shot the perfect nickname
For most of the series, OG Anunoby has quietly been the rock that held the New York Knicks together. Even with all of the erratic performances from Karl-Anthony Towns and Jalen Brunson, the forward has kept the team in the game constantly. In Game 4, though, Anunoby announced his presence in a huge way.
With 5.9 seconds left in the game, Jalen Brunson shot a deep 30-footer over Victor Wembanyama and De’Aaron Fox. Sensing the opportunity, Anunoby crashed the boards, tipping the ball for one of the craziest game-winners in Finals history. That tip-in completed the largest comeback in NBA finals history as the Knicks came back from a 29-point deficit to win Game 4.
After the game, Towns had a fitting reaction to Anunoby’s game-winner, calling it “The Right Hand of God”. The Knicks center also heaped praise on Anunoby, saying, “He gave us a chance to win, and that’s all you can ask for from the best two-way player in the NBA.”
Anunoby had the best game of his career in Game 4 against the Spurs. While everything seemed to be going wrong for New York, OG was the lone bright spot for the team. He finished the game with 33 points on 10-of-15 shooting from the field, four rebounds, a steal, and a block. That block was arguably the most important stat he got: it was a crucial chasedown against Fox that kept the Spurs lead at 1 with around 10 seconds remaining.
Anunoby is averaging 23.8 points per game in the Finals, picking up the slack for Brunson’s bouts of inefficiency. Towns’ inconsistency and the Knicks’ bench’s erratic production. He had 28 points in Game 3, nearly keeping them in that game with a late three-pointer before Stephon Castle’s game-sealing triple in crunch time. This time, Anunoby made sure to seal the deal for his team.
The Knicks are now headed back to San Antonio for Game 5 for a chance to win their first NBA championship since 1973. The closeout game is often the hardest, and the Knicks are familiar with that. Can Anunoby seal the deal and get his second championship ring?
