Kendrick Perkins puts fist down with 76ers’ Joel Embiid trade demand
On Sunday afternoon, the Philadelphia 76ers’ 2025-26 season came to an unceremonious end with a blowout loss in Game 4 against the New York Knicks, completing a series sweep. The 76ers looked lifeless from essentially the opening tipoff in what was technically a home game, but in reality sounded a lot like Madison Square Garden.
The 76ers now enter another offseason with more questions than answers, particularly around the future of former franchise cornerstone Joel Embiid, who once again struggled to stay on the court in these playoffs.
Recently, former NBA big man and current ESPN analyst Kendrick Perkins took to “First Take” to break down what he would do if he were in the 76ers’ front office.
“This relationship has run its course. It’s time for both parties to separate. … I believe Joel Embiid needs a change of scenery,” said Perkins, per First Take on X, formerly Twitter.
Trade rumors have been floating around the former league MVP over the last couple of seasons as he has continued to deal with poor injury luck, and as Tyrese Maxey has taken over the reins of the franchise as the clear number one option moving forward.
When he was healthy, especially after his return against the Boston Celtics in the first round, Embiid looked like a true force on offense, dominating Boston both around the basket and on the perimeter to help Philadelphia overcome a 3-1 deficit to win.
However, banking on Embiid’s health has proved to be a fool’s errand for the 76ers over the years, and it’s possible that the 2026 offseason finally sees them explore what they could get in return for the big man on the NBA trade market.
Clearly, Darryl Morey and company have some big decisions ahead of them in the coming months.
