Josh Hart’s Knicks teammates gush about him lighting up MSG in Game 2
With Jalen Brunson drawing the brunt of the Cleveland Cavaliers’ defensive attention after he dropped 38 points in the New York Knicks’ comeback victory in Game 1 from 22 points down, the opportunities were there for the Knicks’ role players to take center stage. Considering the many weapons they have on offense, ranging from Karl-Anthony Towns to OG Anunoby to Mikal Bridges, they have everything they needed to weather a more Brunson-centric defensive approach from the Cavs.
Instead, it was Josh Hart, one of the unlikeliest sources of offense, who led the team in scoring in Game 2, recording 26 points on 10-21 shooting from the field (5-11 from deep). His explosion from deep was rather unlikely; just to put things in perspective, Hart made as many triples as James Harden and Donovan Mitchell did in Game 2. Moreover, he’s only made over five triples just once in his playoff career prior to tonight, and during the 2025-26 regular season, he only had three such games.
But it’s been clear over the past few years that Hart is a bonafide playoff riser, and his teammates, aside from his good pal Brunson (who resorted to deadpan humor instead), couldn’t be happier to see him explode on offense.
“I’m not actually looking for him. He just happened to be open,” Brunson said in deadpan fashion, via Kristian Winfield of New York Daily News.
“We’re super confident in him. We’re gonna keep finding him and we know he’s gonna make some shots — but for him, we just know he’s mentally-tough,” Mikal Bridges added.
“He’s a great player. We just want to keep giving him confidence. He doesn’t have it but he has it. He knows, he works on it,” Anunoby expressed, via SNY on X (formerly Twitter).

The Knicks are already difficult to defend as it is, but they’re basically impossible to defeat when Hart pops off.
