Josh Harris speaks out on 76ers fans who want him to sell the team

It’s safe to say that the Philadelphia 76ers fanbase isn’t very pleased with the job Josh Harris is doing running the team. While 76ers fans got their wish in the form of a change in the team’s brain trust after the team let Daryl Morey go from his post as president of basketball operations, a good subset of the team’s fanbase also wants Harris gone as one of the franchise’s managing partners.

Harris has become notorious in the eyes of 76ers fans for being cheap. His allergy to the luxury tax may have forced Morey’s hands at the trade deadline, when they dealt away Jared McCain to the Oklahoma City Thunder in exchange for a few draft assets. McCain has since emerged as a key contributor for the Thunder off the bench, while the 76ers badly needed depth in the 2026 NBA playoffs as they got themselves swept by the New York Knicks.

In a press conference on Thursday, Harris spoke out on fans’ growing discontent of his leadership over the 76ers.

“I think I’m very focused on setting the team up and the club to push through the second round and go win the NBA championship and achieve our goals. No one’s more frustrated than I am. I understand people’s frustration,” Harris said, via PHLY on X (formerly Twitter).

Harris and the 76ers brought in Bob Myers, the architect of the Golden State Warriors dynasty, to oversee the process of finding Morey’s replacement. Perhaps Myers’ expertise is exactly what the 76ers need to get over the hump, but even then, will the team’s financial M.O. under Harris ever change?

Contending teams know that putting together a talented team exacts a heavy price, financially-speaking, and the 76ers will have to be prepared to splash the cash if they were truly serious about competing for a title.
