John Carlson glows over post-deadline tenure with Ducks
The Anaheim Ducks’ season has come to an end after making the playoffs for the first time since 2018. As part of the playoff push, the Ducks made a shocking trade with the Washington Capitals, acquiring John Carlson.
As the team completed exit interviews with the media, Carlson spoke of his time in Anaheim, per a video posted by the team on X, formerly Twitter.
“it was a it was a real thrill. I think it was a blast. It’s obviously a totally new experience for me, and you know, from that aspect, to come to a team and get treated like I did here and get to know and feel like I made a lot of friendships and a lot of great times here, and it was definitely a great year,” Carlson said.
Carlson, after playing 1143 regular-season games with the Capitals, put on a new jersey for the first time. He played 16 games with the Ducks, finding the back of the net four times while adding ten assists. He then played 12 games in the postseason, adding six more helpers. Still, Carlson shrank in the second round, struggling as the Ducks fell to the Vegas Golden Knights.
Now, Carlson gets to think about his future.
“I don’t have answers for right now, and you know I certainly loved it here and know there’s a lot of moving parts to properly answer the question,” Carlson said about returning. “I’ve loved my time. It’s a special place here for sure, with some extraordinary talent and a really bright future. So, that certainly is attractive to anyone, not just myself.”
Carlson just finished his final year of an eight-year contract he had signed with the Capitals ahead of the 2018-19 season. There is some speculation that he would be open to a reunion with the Caps, but Carlson could extend with the Ducks after a positive experience.
