11.42 BetMGM EBF ’National Hunt’ Maiden Hurdle (Class 2) 2m1f

It is hard to oppose anything the Skelton’s are running right now and I certainly don’t want to go against them here as LE BEAU MADRIK looks to have outstanding claims in this. He looked promising in bumpers finishing second on both starts and is expected to improve plenty now sent over hurdles.

Gaelic Rover ran well to finish third in a competitive race at Ayr first time over hurdles and with improvement expected can give the selection most to think about here.

🏇 Bet on LE BEAU MADRIK to win at 6/4 with William Hill 🏇

12.15 Paul Ferguson’s Jumpers To Follow Handicap Chase (Class 4) 2m4f

Hello Judge is eyeing up a hat-trick so has to be feared but the handicapper applies more pressure and he is off a career-high mark now so this will be much tougher. I prefer MAGHLAAK at a price as he also arrives in winning form having scored convincingly at Southwell on chase debut. He can improve again and should be right in the mix.

Grand Geste bumped into one on chase debut at Carlisle and if building on that should get competitive. At a bigger price Similar Story might be worth a saver but she does need to bounce back from that blip on return where she unseated rider.

🏇 Bet on MAGHLAAK each way at 4/1 with bet365🏇

12.50 Weatherbys And Birdie Calendars ’The French Furze’ Novices Hurdle (Class 2) 2m6f

It is hard to look past ZANNDABAD here off the back of that 13-length romp at Sedgefield last month. He travelled so strongly that day and motored into the lead quickly drawing away from them. He steps into novice company now and with a lot of pace on this should pan out perfectly again. He is understandably a short price but I expect him to get the job done.

Just Golden was a bit underwhelming at Uttoxeter beaten some 5 lengths. He could be a nice type but he needs to leave that behind to trouble the favourite and is probably short enough at 11/4. Out Of The Woods impressed at Hexham but this is obviously a great deal more competitive than that so he’ll need to step up again.

🏇 Bet on ZANNDABAD to win at 1/1 with Betfred 🏇

1.25 BetMGM Handicap Chase (Class 3) 3m6f

I just think it was a case of WAL BUCK’S needing the run at Kelso last month. I’d be confident he is better than that so with that under his belt dropped 2lb he could bounce back with a big run here. I’m surprised he is a double-figure price as he has plenty of talent this horse and likely still has more to come over fences.

The Big Breac looked good winning on chase debut at Wetherby and is a horse going the right way but he I s up in the weights and this is more competitive so he’ll need to come forward again. Zertakt definitely has potential but the yard are yet to kick into gear and he’ll probably need rain.

🏇 Bet on WAL BUCK’S each way at 10/1 with Paddy Power 🏇

2.00 BetMGM Fighting Fifth Hurdle (Grade 1) 2m1f

  • 9 of the last 13 winners were aged between 5 and 7
  • 7 of the last 13 winners were favourites or joint favourites
  • 11 of the last 13 winners were rated 151 or higher
  • 11 of the last 13 winners had at least 1 previous win in a Grade 1 or 2 race

Time for the big one now and I’ve surprised myself a bit but after much deliberation I’m definitely keeping the faith with CONSTITUTION HILL. If he is back to anywhere near his best he will have too much speed for them here. Nicky Henderson seems to be confident he has him back to his best and I can’t wait to see him back. It will be great scenes if he leaves this field standing.

The New Lion is seriously talented and he is a horse I want to keep on side this season but I’m not convinced by him over 2 miles especially against a horse of the calibre of the favourite. He could run a good second here and go back up in trip. Anzadam comes over from Ireland but he is entitled to need this having suffered setbacks.

🏇Bet on CONSTITUTION HILL to win at 15/8 with William Hill 🏇

2.35 BetMGM Handicap Hurdle (Class 3) 2m41/2f

I thought there was a lot of encouragement in that reappearance run from BRACE FOR LANDING. That was his first start for Dan Skelton and he just shaped like he would do a lot better for the outing. He won’t mind it if the rain gets into the ground and I expect him to improve plenty and take a bit of beating now.

Serious Operator ran well behind Ace Of Spades at Aintree but you’d think the Skelton team have a line on him through that horse. Hamsiyann unseated at Cheltenham but if putting in a clear round of jumping shouldn’t be easily dismissed.

🏇 Bet on BRACE FOR LANDING to win at 2/1 with Paddy Power 🏇

3.15 BetMGM Rehearsal Handicap Chase (Premier Handicap) 2m71/2f

  • 8 of the last 11 winners were aged 8 or older
  • 8 of the last 11 winners were rated 142 or higher
  • 6 of the last 11 winners had at least 1 previous win in a Graded race
  • 1 of the last 11 winners had at least 1 win that season

Destroytheevidence is a very good horse so for DEAFENING SILENCE to beat him at Warwick last season was impressive. He was beaten at Uttoxeter after that but didn’t jump well enough and that run is best forgiven. He has potential to improve again this season and as long as he isn’t taken off his feet on return I can see him running a big race.

Cruz Control stays all day and has run well fresh so shouldn’t be ignored. Jasmin De Grugy has a convincing profile and should have a lot more to come over fences so is another one expected to get competitive in a decent race to close out.

🏇Bet on DEAFENING SILENCE to win at 11/4 with BetVictor🏇

My top tip for Saturday’s racing on Fighting Fifth Day at Newcastle

The whole day revolves around CONSTITUTION HILL and I’d love to see him back to his best! Racing needs greats and I’m hopeful he can put in a big performance on return. It could also be a big day for the Skelton team and BRACE FOR LANDING is fancied to improve plenty on what we’ve seen so far so the double seems a great bet.

🏇 Bet a Win Double on CONSTITUTION HILL and BRACE FOR LANDING at 7/1 with bet365 🏇
