Jets and Giants fans, players will love seeing natural grass at MetLife Stadium for World Cup

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is scheduled for June 11 and will be in North America for the first time since 1994. One of the venues set to host games will be MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, home to the New York Giants and Jets.

On Friday, a video surfaced of the grounds crew watering the Bermuda grass being installed in anticipation of the World Cup, per Matthew Mangam of NY Soccer Journal.

Surely, fans of both teams will appreciate the sight of natural grass replacing the usual turf surface used during Giants and Jets games.

The grass grew in North Carolina.

In total, eight games will be held at MetLife Stadium. Five group stage matches, a Round of 32 match, a Round of 16 match, and the World Cup Final on July 19.

The five group stage matches will be: June 13: Brazil v. Morocco. June 16: France v. Senegal. June 22: Norway v. Senegal. June 25: Ecuador v. Germany. June 27: Panama v. England.

Nevertheless, fans may pay over $100 to go to the games.

Over the years, MetLife Stadium has hosted pre-World Cup friendlies and other international soccer tournaments.

In 2010, two friendlies (USA vs. Brazil, Mexico vs. Ecuador) were played before crowds of 77,000+ each.

Six years later, Chile defeated Argentina in the Copa América Centenario Final, winning 4-2 on penalty kicks.

In 2024, three matches were held at MetLife during the Copa América. MetLife hosted nine matches during the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, including the Final between Chelsea and PSG, with Chelsea winning 3-0.

Overall, MetLife Stadium holds over 82,000 fans.
