Jeremy Fears Jr. will return to Michigan State after 2026 NBA Draft consideration
Jeremy Fears Jr. grabbed the attention of several scouts over his impressive performance for Michigan State in the NCAA Tournament. His great vision, high IQ, and two-way talent made him an attractive prospect in this year’s NBA Draft.
But after throwing his name in the hat, Fears on Wednesday decided to withdraw and return to Michigan State for a fourth year, as reported by CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein.
With the 21-year-old guard’s decision, Spartans coach Tom Izzo retained one of the top floor generals in college basketball.
Fears, who was widely projected to be a second-round pick, led the nation with 9.4 assists. He also averaged career-highs of 15.2 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 1.3 assists.
He tallied 10.6 points, 2.6 rebounds, 11.3 assists, and 1.3 steals in the NCAA Tournament, leading Michigan State to the Sweet 16.
Fears, who was named to the All-American Second Team, participated in the draft combine in Chicago, where his stock was further evaluated. While his outside shooting remains an area for development, he was consistently praised for his playmaking abilities.
Even before Fears announced his return to Michigan State, Izzo was already confident about the decision, according to a report from The Detroit News’ Connor Earegood.
“We’ve got most of our guards back. I think we’ll have all of them back,” said Earegood.
Izzo has led the Spartans to the NCAA Tournament for 28 straight years.
Fears will have to wait for another year to follow in the footsteps of his younger brother, Jeremiah Fears, who just finished his rookie season with the New Orleans Pelicans. He was drafted as the No. 7 pick and was named to the All-Rookie Second Team.
