Jeff Teague makes definitive statement on Cavs ability to defend Jalen Brunson

The Eastern Conference Finals are set between the New York Knicks and Cleveland Cavaliers with Game 1 scheduled for Tuesday, May 19. A big part of the Cavs’ hopes of advancing hinge on their defense against Knicks star Jalen Brunson. And if you ask former NBA player Jeff Teague, the Cavs’ defense has absolutely zero chance at slowing him down.

During a recent episode of the ‘Club 520 Podcast,’ Jeff Teague explained why he believes the Knicks will ultimately advance to the NBA Finals, and it’s largely because of the Cavs’ defense being unable to guard Jalen Brunson effectively.

“They don’t got nobody that can guard Jalen Brunson. This s**t is over with,” Teague said. “I want James Harden to get to the Finals, definitely. But ain’t nobody on that team that can guard Jalen Brunson. They don’t have nobody … Donovan Mitchell can’t guard him. They’re gonna put Max Strus on him? No way. They’re gonna put Dean Wade? No way.”

The Cavs are coming off a series in which they had to contend with another elite perimeter threat in Cade Cunningham, but Teague believes that Brunson is on another level than the Pistons’ star.

“Jalen Brunson is a different animal than Cade Cunningham because he got other weapons,” Teague said. “When he gets in that pick and roll with KAT [Karl-Anthony Towns], he can pass it back to KAT, KAT’s gonna hit a three. Mitchell [Robinson] is gonna roll for the lob. They got different threats.”

During the regular season, the Knicks squared off against the Cavs three time, with the Knicks going 2-1. In those games, Brunson dropped 25.7 points, 2.0 rebounds and 4.3 assists.
