Jason Kelce slams NFL owners’ $5.4bn relocation plans as Travis makes ‘heartbreaking’ Arrowhead admission

Jason Kelce has hit out at NFL franchises for building new billion-dollar stadiums in the suburbs, suggesting those locations do not benefit fans.

The Philadelphia Eagles legend brought up the topic during the latest episode of his New Heights podcast, which also features his brother, Travis Kelce.

Speaking in the wake of Super Bowl LX in San Francisco, where the Seattle Seahawks beat the New England Patriots, Jason noted the only ‘negative’ about this year’s big game was that Levi’s Stadium is located a long way from downtown.

The pair then began to discuss the NFL’s recent trend of building stadiums in the suburbs, and Travis revealed he has been left ‘heartbroken’ by the Kansas City Chiefs‘ decision to move away from Arrowhead Stadium.

In December, the Chiefs confirmed they will move across state lines from Missouri into Kansas, with the hope of building a new $3 billion home.

“The owners, they get so much more opportunity getting to the outskirts of the city, and it’s hard to argue with,” Travis said.

“We’re dealing with it right now in Kansas City. We’re going over to Kansas. But at the same time, if you look at that deal in terms of an owner, that’s one of the greatest opportunities you could ever get.

“I think it’s going to be unbelievable once it’s finally set in stone, but it is going to be kind of heartbreaking knowing that the Chiefs are going to move away from Arrowhead and the Missouri side of Kansas City.

“It’s just a part of professional sports. It is a business at the end of the day.”

Jason then jumped in, and revealed he is not a fan of teams relocating.

“If I was an owner, I might feel differently, but f*** that,” he said.

“Keep those stadiums in the cities. I know you guys want to make all your money, and you want to have your shows, and you want to do all this stuff.

“The fans pay a lot of the money for you guys to have all these things and for the NFL to exist.

“I don’t like the stadiums moving.”

The older Kelce brother then took aim at the Browns and Chiefs specifically, suggesting they should have attempted to build new stadiums downtown, rather than in the suburbs.

“I don’t like that Cleveland is moving out of Cleveland,” he continued.

“Man, these cities, there’s something awesome about going downtown, into the heart of Cleveland to go see a Browns game.

“They could figure out a way to build a new stadium downtown, like you could build a big, beautiful stadium right down there.

“And you can do the same thing in Kansas City.”

Where are the Browns and Chiefs building new stadiums?

The Chiefs have not yet announced the exact location of their new proposed stadium, but it will be built in Wyandotte County.

A site could be confirmed in the coming days, and two architectural design firms are in the running to build their new home.

The Browns, meanwhile, are relocating to Brook Park, Ohio in 2029.

Their $2.4bn domed stadium will be built around 16 miles south of Huntington Bank Field, their current home.

The Chicago Bears, meanwhile, are set on moving away from Soldier Field — located at the heart of downtown — with a battle between three states for their future.

There’s little doubt that the current NFL trend is to build on the outskirts of town, and the Kelce brothers aren’t exactly on board with it.
