The Connecticut Sun are indeed headed to a new home, beginning in the 2027 WNBA season.

On Wednesday, the WNBA released an official statement on the completion of the Sun franchise’s sale to Tilman J. Fertitta, who is also the owner of NBA franchise Houston Rockets.

Here is the full statement from the WNBA on the league and the NBA’s approval of the Sun’s sale to Fertitta (h/t Kareem Copeland of ESPN):

“The WNBA and NBA Board of Governors have unanimously approved the sale and relocation of the Connecticut Sun from the Mohegan Tribe to new owner Tilman J. Fertitta, the league announced today. Mohegan Sun Arena will remain the home of the Sun for the 2026 WNBA season. During this season, the Sun will host two regular-season games at PeoplesBank Arena in Hartford, Connecticut (May 30 and July 2), and return to Boston, Massachusetts for a matchup at TD Garden (August 18). The team will relocate to Houston beginning with the 2027 season.”‘

The Sun franchise was originally based in Orlando and was known as the Orlando Miracle from the 1999 season to the 2002 campaign.  The club relocated to Connecticut in 2003.

Connecticut was a perennial playoff contender in previous years, even reaching the WNBA Finals in 2022. But the team has regressed of late, missing the postseason in 2025 after winning only 11 games and posting 33 losses.

The team will also change its name to the Houston Comets upon its relocation.

It can be recalled that the Comets were one of the original WNBA franchises and won four league championships before the club disbanded following the 2008 season.
